Oblt Karl Krüger

In Ysselsteyn there is buried an Oblt Karl Krüger who died on 19 August 1942. He has been associated with the crash of a NJG/1 Bf 110 at Leeuwarden.

Also for the same date I have an Oblt Karl Krüger in a Do 217 of 6./KG2 who FTR from Dieppe.

Please does anybody know for sure whether there were two pilots called Oblt Karl Krüger? Or is the man buried in the Netherlands actually from a Do 217?

Many thanks. Dave

Re: Oblt Karl Krüger

I have no loss of NJG 1 on that day, only 6./KG 2 with Karl-Ludwig Krüger. Therefore strongly believe that there was only one Krüger KIA on 19 Aug 1942 in Do 217 E-4. There was in 12./NJG 1 Heinz Krüger, but he was killed on 4 Dec 1944.

Oblt. Karl Krüger (grave AR-110) belongs to that 6./KG 2 crew. Washed ashore.

Re: Oblt Karl Krüger

Oblt. Karl Krüger was initially buried at Leeuwarden. So must have washed ashore somewhere in Friesland. i do not know when.

MIA 19 August, 1942 when he failed to return after attacking the Allied landing at Dieppe. He was believed lost due to an attack by fighters. His body washed ashore, after crashing into the North Sea off Leeuwarden, Netherlands. He is buried at Ysselsteyn, Blk AR, Row 5, Gr 110. No word on the crew (D.Drury).

4 February 1943, the day when NJG 1 at Leeuwarden was scrambled to intercept a USAAF B-17 raid on Germany.
