old unanswered questions

Hello,

Found these questions that I placed on another forum some 18 years ago.
Has there been anything come to light since then ?
Question was -

"Can anyone help ?
Which Hawker Hart Trainer was it that was used in Luftwaffe markings after being left in France in 1940?
Which RAF Squadron did it belong to and where was it left and what was its fate?
While I'm on the subject, what was the fate of those Harts captured by the Italians in Yugoslavia?"

Thank you
Alex

Re: old unanswered questions

Hello Alex,

...

Royal Yugoslav AF never used Hawker Harts only Hinds. Three of them.
One was destroyed in the pre war accident, one was lost during operational sortie in 1941 April war, while the third one was burned by VVKJ crews on the ground as unserviceable.

Only some Furies were captured by RA after the war.

Re: old unanswered questions

Thank you Aleks and Stig,
It was quite a long time ago when I posted the Yugoslavia question.
Somewhere way back then I had a list of aircraft captured by the Italian forces. I found the list of French a/c but cannot find one of other captures in eastern Europe.
However on the Worldairforces.com Yugoslavia page there is the following.

Hawker Fury IA {F} 31/41 6e30
" " II " 36/41 11e
"(Ik) " " * 37/41 f50
"(Zmaj) " " * 37/41 f
" Hart 31 6
" Hind {F} 37/41/ 3 *P
" Hurricane I " 38/41 24 *xP
" "[with DB601A engine] *41 41/41 (1)
"(Ik) " *
"(Rog) " * 41/ g41
"(Zmaj) " {F} * 41/ 20g
" " IV " 44/51 20+ .

Six Harts from around 1931.
If ex RAF they would have been in the "J" series but I could not find a Yugoslavia reference. So perhaps they were a direct purchase from Hawker's ?

Or is the above an incorrect entry ?

Thanks, it took 18 years for a responds but then, this is a different forum ☺

I accept that the Italian forces may have misidentified Fury's as Hart's.

Thank you both
Alex

Re: old unanswered questions

Alex

Very few Air Forces outside Britain chose to buy the Hart.
Sweden and Estonia springs to mind.

Most nations waited for various developments of the basic airframe.
Yugoslavia was one of those.

I don't know what is your reference, but it is wrong

Cheers
Stig

Re: old unanswered questions

Hi, I to got interested in this back in early 2000's when the old LEMB was up.. from my digging I found 3 "pic's" and the reference for the profile was ...

Hawker Hart - Merville, France 1940. Luftwaffe Hawker Hart colour profile which is from
Profile 57 'Hawker Hart'.

the two pic were claimed to be Harts / Demons... after a while I got side-tracked and left it there...

Re: old unanswered questions

First picture is a former Belgian Fairey Fox or Firefly.

Since it is a wreck, I don't bother to try and identify it correctly.

Second picture seems to have been taken with British individuals so not captured.

Cheers

Re: old unanswered questions

The first picture has straight top longerons across the rear cockpit area so is a Hart or similar rather than a Demon, Hind, etc with a lowered gunner's position.

The second picture is a prewar but post-Munich view of a 607 Sq. Demon, before the Royal Auxiliary Air Force unit was re-equipped with Gladiators.
