R.A.L.C. -a British munitions factory?
Hello friends,
please, who knows the meaning of the acronym R.A.L.C.? It should be the manufacturer or supplier of the 5,5" Reconnaissance Flare Mk. I during WW2. I have found metal ammo boxes for sale on eBay also marked R.A.L.C. with the explanation "Royal Army Logistic Core", but Google doesn't know this marked either. Thank you, Jan |

Re: R.A.L.C. -a British munitions factory?
RLC did not exist until 1993 when Royal Corps of Transport, the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, the Royal Pioneer Corps, the Army Catering Corps and the Royal Engineers Postal and Courier Service were amalgamated

Thank you, my friends, for your immediate response and help.
Please take a look at these links: https://sallyantiques.co.uk/product/...x-tap-die-set/ or https://www.m1militaria.co.uk/World-...LC-Storage-Box it's undoubtedly a British munitions company. |

Re: R.A.L.C. -a British munitions factory?
Having now looked at the pictures, could it be a badly stamped RAOC, ie Royal Army Ordnance Corps?

Not sure if this matters or not, but both boxes seem to be marked R.A.L.C (no period after the C.).

Re: R.A.L.C. -a British munitions factory?
Yes, there are—RAOC and RASC spring to mind—but in each case AFAIK it’s the corps that is “royal” rather than the Army (blame Oliver Cromwell?). But this is a country where the charity preventing cruelty to animals is “Royal” but the one preventing cruelty to children isn’t, so who knows what the logic is, if any? Protocol nonsense aside, the sellers’ “Royal Army Logistics Corps” didn’t work and we still have’t come up with an answer!
