Generalmajor Eduard Riesch
Generalmajor Eduard Riesch was shot down on Feb 17 1945 and killed. Does anybody have an idea what a/c he flew and what actually happened? It is said his plane crashed near Niesky/Silesia but until now I could not locate that place.
Thanks, john. |

Re: Generalmajor Eduard Riesch
Michal, are you sure? I have Jauer as German name for Jawor. Furthermore I located a Niesky some 20 km NW of Görlitz in Niederschlesien.....could this be the crashlocation of Gen.Maj. Riesch' a/c????

Re: Generalmajor Eduard Riesch
John, I am not sure if it is the case but names of villages in this area had been changed in the second half of 1930s for more 'Germanic' ones. Now, they are generally reverted back to the original meaning but this may add to the general confusion.

Re: Generalmajor Eduard Riesch
John,
I have found in one old map that Niesky should be German name for Jawor (and it is true that German name for Jawor is Jauer as well) and I know about Niesky in Niederlausitz as well. So, right know when I prove all of available Information I am able to say I am not sure. Yes, it seems that Niesky could be that town in Niederlausitz most probable. |

Re: Generalmajor Eduard Riesch
Michal,
OK, thanks for checking. My maps of the Jauer/Jawor are recent but in Polish and German language. So this could be an old name for Jauer. I will see if I can check other records to verify death of Gen.Maj. Riesch. John |
