AIR 27/2013 frame 240, Form 541:-
6.10.44, Spitfire XIX RM637, F/L R.F.C.Garvey, Sortie 106G/3257 Time Up 13.20 Time Down 16.07
Height 6500ft at 1450A. Target Job 771 AEAF (Recce 153) pts 1 and 2 Korlenz Area. Photos of Job 771 AEAF (RECCE 153) pt 1 Rhein-Andernach-Koblenz. pt.2 Bendorf-Melsbach. Antwerp-Flushing. Job 773 Westkapelle Dyke at 1457A. Combat Report. Flak at Koblenz very heavy and intense but inaccurate for height and pilot jinked before commencing second run. After covering second target pilot climbed away simultanesouly sighting 2 FW 190’s above and SW of him at 9,000’. Our A/C opened up and decided to climb due W when he saw leading FW emit trail of light smoke as if methanol injection was used. FW closed quickly to 700 yards and began firing. Our a/c went into tight spiral dive to zero feet only just pulling out over trees with FW 190 in pursuit. Pilot went into very steep turn and E/A failed to avoid trees while pulling out and blew up in a wood. P.R. unarmed Spit XIX claims one FW 190 Destroyed. Place 8 miles E of Bruck – Time 1455/A.
