Hi could anybody confirm the date of the following losses.
Do.17Z. 5K+CL W.Nr.3321 Hptm.Kuekens St.Kap. killed with crew following a mid air collision over Ghent, crashed at Ertvelde. I have this as 10.7.40 and 8.9.40? The other a/c was Do17Z. 5K+GL W.Nr.3426 crew bel.safe. Any help would be appreciated. Best regs, Steve. |

Re: Hptm.Kuekens St.kapitan 3/KG3 loss.
I wonder by chance if the functions of Lt.Gaumnitz and Lehmann are known from the NVM report?

Thanks Matti.
I wonder if you could possibly help with the losses sustained by KG3 on 26.8.40 following the raids on British airfields. Kindest regs, Steve. |

Re: Hptm.Kuekens St.kapitan 3/KG3 loss.
Yes, a particularly difficult set of NVMs to interpret with any confidence. The only differences to your listing I would suggest are as follows:
7./KG3 Dornier Do17Z (3329). Shot down by fighters during sortie to attack Manston 12.20 p.m. FF Lt Heinz Sachse killed, - BF Uffz Heinz Henning, and BM Uffz Theodor Oerter both wounded - admitted to hospital in Hardinghen, HS Gefr Karl Pott slightly wounded. Aircraft 5K+GR 100% write-off. 7./KG3 Dornier Do17Z (3602). Crash-landed at Calais-Marck badly damaged by fighters following attack on Manston 12.20 p.m. BO Uffz Horst Pässler slightly wounded In head and chest, rest of crew unhurt. Aircraft 100% write-off. 7./KG3 Dornier Do17Z-3 (2822). Forced-landed at Merville out of fuel following sortie to attack Manston 12.20 p.m. BO Gefr August Meyer and BF Obergefr Konrad Kniesburges both slightly wounded - admitted to hospital in Lille, rest of crew unhurt. Aircraft damage state not recorded. |

Re: Hptm.Kuekens St.kapitan 3/KG3 loss.
Great, this solves the problem, which has disturbed me for a long time. GQM contained a smaller number of lost aircraft, than my interpretation of NVMs. Sadly, those early war NVMs list only personnel without any connections to individual aircraft. Now everything seems logical. Thanks a lot.
