Oblt Kurt Dahlmann III/KG 30

Was Dahlmann a member of 9/KG 30 and when Oblt Friedrich Rinck was shot down on 27 Jan 41, did he take command of the Staffel?

I don't know the answer but it may help that his RK-EL citation mentions that on 27 January 1941 he bombed the "Moulders and Pieters" ironworks in Newark Notts. from low level, hitting the factory itself and its rail sidings.

Nick: I too have this-he got the Newark factory and Rinck BMARC. It was a popular target for III/KG 30-Dahlmann was after it 23 Nov 40, 27 Jan 41, 30 Jan 41 and 4 Feb 41 but only managed to hit the target on the first & last attacks due to weather

Re: Oblt Kurt Dahlmann III/KG 30

Hi Chris, im particularly interested in Dahlmanns ops you refer to on 23.11.40 and thru January - Febuary 1941 whilst with III/KG30.

Could you add any further detail to these missions, or substantiate Dahlmanns Staffel at the time?
Any further scraps of info greatly appreciated!

Best regs,
Steve.

Re: Oblt Kurt Dahlmann III/KG 30

Dahlmann's staffel is assumed to be 9/KG 30 as the witnesses of his attacks came from that Staffel. His citation lists attacks on 31 Aug 40, 13 Oct 40, 23 Nov 40, 27 Jan 41, 30 Jan 41 and 4 Feb 41 before he heads off to the Med. If you want more, you will probably have to wait for my next book to be published later this year

Re: Oblt Kurt Dahlmann III/KG 30

Just as a sidebar on this , having checked the local papers reports for my Ransome Marles raid in 41 I did come across this raid " On Jan 30th ( not 27th ) 1941 two people were killed in an attack by a single plane, which dropped 14 bombs along the River Trent and Muskham Rd. " That area is next to the Nottingham - Skegness railway line and had the W.N Nicholson's Ironworks ( established 1825 ) between that and the Trent cut. A little further up on the other side of the Trent near the East Coast main line is Farrar boiler works ( established 1887 ) But no one local I know even alive during WW2 has ever heard of "Moulders and Pieters" ironworks in Newark Notts. From what I can find Nicholson's carried on producing agricultural equipment but Farrars produced boilers for the navy.
