Re: A Do 17 P lost on 6 or 7.09.19 near Nałączów?

You are welcome. Unfortunately it doesn't fit with the crews fate as well.

Yes this is such nice mystery? Ground witness said one and the "know" plane had crashed in other place.

Mirek, saw this one in the KG26 history the location has a question mark but some details seem to fit in otherwise, is it worth considering, sometimes the aircraft type is not correct in old records/memories. On 06-09-1939 He111 H 1H+AM 4/KG26 shot down by a fighter while on a Tiefangriff ' An Strasse Locye Lowitz . Im Raum Dabis Grabor-Leczyza ? ' with Bf Uffz Josef Listl badly wounded a prisoner of war. Two other Heinkels of 4/KG26 were also lost with same location given but 1H+AM is the only one showing a prisoner ,

Re: A Do 17 P lost on 6 or 7.09.19 near Nałączów?

Brian

it could not be.

On 6.09.39 was done by III/1 and IV/1 with 18 PZL P.11s a deep "seep"/reccon. around this area (time 14.30-16.00): Łodź-Uniejów-Koło-Ślesin.

There was a "well know" combat, during it Polish pilot had claimed at last 12 victories (first was 6 victories plus 4 damaged). In fact only 3 He 111 Hs of 4/KG 26 were lost plus one more damaged of 9.

Poles lost 3 planes shot down by German fire (2 pilot KIA), and 4 more due to lack of fuel. Only one returned later to the unit.

So this combat does not fit to this "Do 17", no way.

This 1H+AM force landed, destroyed, near Ruszków Drugi k/Koła, probably hit by pilots of III/1 Dyon.

Re: A Do 17 P lost on 6 or 7.09.19 near Nałączów?

Mirek,

In the EoE LW photo DB we have three photos of a 1H+AM with 1939-style fuselage crosses being salvaged after a crash landing. It has numerous bullet strike on it that appear to be from a fighter attack from the rear. Initially, I thought that it was the 1H+AM lost in Poland. However, another photo of this same a/c has a caption stating that this a/c FL near "'Borgwedel,' which is located in Schleswig-Flensburg district not far from the Danish border in N.Germany (NW of Kiel). This would suggest, if this info is correct, that the photos of 1H+AM were not the one forced down on 04 Sept 1939, but a later a/c that carried the same markings. However, we don't immediately find a candidate for this one.

Questions for Mirek and other readers,

1) do you know of any photos of the He111 that was lost in Poland on 4 Sept?

2) Does anyone know any candidates for a later He111H that crashed in N. Germany carrying the same code, 1H+AM?

Hope someone can help.

Re: A Do 17 P lost on 6 or 7.09.19 near Nałączów?

Larry
this info about code 1H+AM coming from M. Emmerling's books. Mayby, it is assumption, he had done (or even German from a staff in 1939?) a normal typing error, and now this error still exists and make problems?

Next it is almost a miracle to have photo with exacte date and place, and sentence "this plane had crashed on 4.09.39 near Kraków/Krakau" or like this. Such miracles never happen in reality. I have seen many photos but almost all with no description - empty other side.

Next, we are talking about combats on 6.09.39 not about on 4.09.39.

There was not combats PZL P.11s from Brygada Pościgowa v. He 111s with losses both sides on 4.09.39? I do not know such case...

The combats on 4.09.39 were against: Me 110s, Ju 87s.
