Lost of 3 F3F-2 Hawaii 24th June 1941

All

I am trying to find out more infomation about the loss of 3 F3F-2's on Hawaii on 24th June 1941. They were Bu #0972, 1028 and 1033. These aircaft were recovered in the late 1980's by Doug Champlin and were used as the basis for 3 of the 4 flying replicas built by Herb Tischler's Texas Airplane Factory in Fort Worth in the early 1990's.

All I can find is references

a) "In the summer before the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, three F3F's took off from a carrier for night operations. All three got lost and crashed into the side of a volcano on Hawaii." -

b) Island of Oahu

c) Recovered from a ravine

But I cannot find any details on crew or fates

Can anyone help

Thanks

Paul

Fiannly got somne info from Google News Archive

3 Marine Flyers Killed As Planes Hit Mountain

Hartford Courant - Jun 26, 1941

Honolulu, June 25.--(AP.)--Three United States Marine flyers, flying in three Navy planes in formation through a blinding rain, were killed last night. They struck the west side of Mount Haleakala an 8000-foot extinct volcano on Maui Island. The dead were First Lieutenant William M. Ferris of Lakewood, NJ; Second Lieutenant Warner Hagemann, Jr., Kansas City, Kansas and Second Lieutenant Clyde H. Story, address not available.
All three planes were demolished. Heavy rain over the mountain had reduced visibility to zero.

Still need to match crewman to aircraft if possible

Just found out Second Lieutenant Warner Hagemann, Jr. was on #1028 just need to sort out other two now
