airraid 16/17 October 1940
Hello friends,
my main interest is the Luftwaffe, but please, I have one quick question, do you know the details about Bomber Command airraid on Germany on the night of 16/17 October 1940 ?? What were the targets and did the RAF have any casualties? Thanks, Jan |

Thank you again, my main interest is in the operations of the Hampdens of No. 5 Group over Leuna.
Only by Google search I found there: Merseburg Leuna (A.77) 61 Sqn (base Helmsell, Lincolnshire) 17:58-02:55 8 Hampden 1 lost X2979 - pilot P/O William Herbert Clemerson, return, cr. Sporle, Norfolk, UK, all 4 men killed Merseburg Leuna (A.77) 144 Sqn (base Helmsell, Lincolnshire) 17:24-03:34 7 Hampden 2 lost X2973 - pilot Sgt. John H. Brown, return, mia over North Sea, Haurvig, DK X2988 - pilot P/O T. Dawson, return, cr. Massinghams, Norfolk, all bailed out, 1 kia/rest ok but I can´t find the last plane of 44. Squadron ?? |

3 aircraft were damaged on landing, one (X2597/Sqn Ldr Broad) was written off after it caught fire
