Oscar H Coen 71 sqd.

I curious if anyone knows the s/n of Oscar's Spit XR+Z?
I know he flew AD564, BM293, AB827 & AB802 but no idea on the codes
for any of these. Thanks much!

From Escort to Berlin by Fry & Ethell: they have BM293 as XR-W till transferred to 335th FS and coded AV-L. Nothing on the others but XR- for AD564.

Jack,

What is Coen's association with XR-Z? That might help.

Tom

Re: Oscar H Coen 71 sqd.

Hi Jack,

Only one serial with 71 Sqn has been matched to aircraft code Z and that was a Hurricane I Z7816.

As Kent points out BM293 was coded W and held that code after transfer to the USAAF in 334. The other serials you list haven't been matched to code letters.

Cheers,

Tim

Because all these shots are from same date and for press - this is probably same plane and maybe personal machine of LtCol Chesley G Peterson - maybe if somebody have his log book, can be serial number linked to XR*Z

Oscar told me that he considered XR+Z his Spitfire. A friend is doing a painting of it.
