the victory claims of Spanish Republican pilots in VVS
Good Morning to all
Having a bit of frustration ,trying to find information of the claims made by the Former Spanish Republican pilots that flew in the VVS from 1942 to 1945, even the book AVIADORES ESPANOLES EN LA URSS 1936-1948 by Rafael de Madariaga publish by Galland Books fail to list their claims while in the service in the VVS. The Author went to Russia and did his research there, but no listing just some mentions but incomplete. And even books on Russian aces fail to mention o put to little about them. There are some pilots I am trying to locate information Jose Maria Pascual Santamaria reported 14 Kills KIA Stalingrad Vicente Beltran Rodrigo reported 20 kills Domingo Bonilla Domingo reported 8-9 kills Juan Lario Sanchez reported 27+8 shared kils Francisco Merono Pellicer reported 7 kills WIA On Lario a number of arcticles and books mention his final score but no listing of his claims, so I wonder does anybody how to gain information in Russia on the units these pilot flew in. Thank you in advance Santiago |

Re: the victory claims of Spanish Republican pilots in VVS
Hello,
there are acquaintances among the descendants of the Republicans, I ask. There was an article about the "Spaniards in VVS" http://allaces.ru/sssr/publ/06.php |

Lt. Pascual Jose Santamaria had 3 personal and two shared (in pair) victories. Scored in 788 IAP PVO between August 16 and August 27, 1942.
He failed to return from combat sortie on August 27, 1942. |

Re: the victory claims of Spanish Republican pilots in VVS
Hello HGabor
So no aerial claims for Celestino Martinez Fierro just ground kills ,because Rafael de Madariaga book claims he had several claims to his credit with out giving detail, that another thing I hit during this research. cheers Santiago |

Re: the victory claims of Spanish Republican pilots in VVS
I am not saying that. I just know about these specific ground kills for him, that's all. But as being a Po-2 (U-2), later IL-2m3 Sturmovik pilot, it was more common to score ground kills rather than aerial victories. Simply because of the AC model, and task.
