Re: Radar site at Nieuwerkerken (Belgium)

Hello Luc,

This kind of square concrete plots was also used on Raum 7B at Villers-Deux-Eglise where, it seems, was a FuGM 51 Mammut (and no hexagonal plot as for Würzburg Riese).

I still have a doubt about it and it should be interesting if others researchers can confirm the FuG sets both in Raum 6B and 7B. By the way, hexagonal plots of 6C were demolished some years ago. For Raum 7, there is just one hexagonal plot left, on 7A site.

My friend Roland Charlier wrote a valuable book about Raum 7 and the history of Florennes airbase, which share the same rich history as Raum 6 and former Brustem airbase.

If interested about ordering Florennes Raum Sieben 1942-1945 by Roland Charlier (written in French) just tell to me.

Best regards from Raum 7

Re: Radar site at Nieuwerkerken (Belgium)

Hello Luc,

The 8 square concrete blocks may have been the foundation of a Y-tower with Y-peiler, certainly not of a WR or Freya.

'Berta' was just used in communications to distinguish a 'B' from 'D'. The name 6B was used for almost 2 years until the radarstation was dismantled. The 'Auswerte Stellung' may have been near or even on St.Truiden A/F, I have no further details about this.

Best regards, Marcel

Re: Radar site at Nieuwerkerken (Belgium)

Hello Luc,

What you describe as 'remains of a Würzburg' doesn't resemble the massive, 6 sided concrete foundation UNLESS this is the little, green covered 'hill' to the right.
Will tomorrow respond about the searchlights but according to my knowledge about Raum 5 initially there were NO Flak-units amidst the searchlights in the Kammhuber line.

Best regards, Marcel
