Did all Pathfinder Lancasters carry H2S?

Doing some research on Lancaster JB221 from 97 Sqn.
She went down on 26 November 1943 with then loss of the whole crew.
I am trying to determine if this particular Lancaster had H2S installed.
Thanks, Danny

Re: Did all Pathfinder Lancasters carry H2S?

I believe 8 Group had priority for H2S and in particular the 3cm variety during the period

Cannot be sure for JB221 but the ORB specifically mentions the following Lancs as using Y (H2S) to find their target on the following nights

25/11 - JB243, JB422
26/11 - JB232
02/12 - JA857, JB119, JB300, JB470

All of these nicely bracket JB221.

Hi Danny,

nice to read from you again.

If the JB221 had H2S installed so this should be mentioned in the Aircraft Loss Card.

Best regards,
René

I think it is safe to build the model with the H2S. A bit of creative freedom should be ok

Hi Rene, I agree, alas I do not have the loss card and now that I live in South Korea, it is too much work to go hunting for it

Thanks for this. I found her under the 25th weirdly, but she had H2S.

Thanks again.

Re: Did all Pathfinder Lancasters carry H2S?

The date is usually the night of the raid 25/26 Nov, not the date it crashed. Therefore they kept all the losses from a particular raid together, rather than spread out over two dates, which would get very confusing for raids on a target on consecutive nights

That makes sense. Thanks for clearing this up. Danny
