III/KG1 Ju 88 operations and crashlanding, 21 April 1941

Dear all,

On 21st April 1941 Ju 88A-5 Wnr 2380 from 8./KG1 nosed over at De Kooy airfield, The Netherlands.

I've tried to figure out from which mission this Ju 88 returned. According to The Battle of Britain Then and Now by Winston Ramsay, Portsmouth was target in the night of 20/21st April 1941 of 12 Ju 88's of III/KG1.
In my opinion this would be too far away to be related with the mishap at De Kooy.

Other actions, however during daytime on 21st April 1941, included an aerial combat between Spitfires of 222 Squadron and a Ju 88 over the North Sea E of Great Yarmouth , the Ju 88 being claimed as damaged. This matches far better the mishap at De Kooy airfield.

However, I'm not sure whether 8./KG1 was detailed to attack shipping on 21st April 1941 and hope someone may have more info about the actions of KG1 on that date?

Additionally, I would be very grateful if someone has crew names on file of the concerned Ju 88.

Thanks in advance for your effort,
Hans Nauta

Hello Hans,

This one reported in the usual GQM , H so no ops , changed to what to be appearing as 8.kg1, plane was lost in June with same unit, something is added "beul/feul ohne"

III.KG1 was seated at that time on northern France, on the night 19/20 from 20.00 to 01h15 19 planes probably over London all landed at Roye-amy
20/21 . april no ops
21/22 from 22.00 to 02h10 14 planes over possibly Plymouth all planes landed at Roye-amy

Hi Remi,

Thanks again for your help! Do you mean the GQM did list this accident as a result of a non-operational mission?

Regards,
Hans
