Re: Loss of Spifire X4773 27th March 1943
Found this :
On 27.3.1943 Spitfire Ia X4773 was being flown by Sgt DG White, RAFVR age 22 flying from Llandow. The pilot had been sent to climb to to 25,000 feet, but radio contact was lost. Shortly after, the Cardiff Observer Corps reported a Spitfire diving vertically and buried itself near the Greendown Inn, St Georges Super Ely near Cardiff. The aircraft was excavated 2005. http://www.redkitebooks.co.uk/aa/ex0...e_Cardiff.html Nick |
