Re: Oblt Franz Brinkhaus 6./NJG2 1944

Hi

During the night of 29th/30th July 1942 he was injured when he crash-landed his Bf110, this seems to account for the gap in his claims. Other crew members are not named in this incident.

His claims are:-

4./NJG 1 Lt 31.5.42 Wellington 35km NW Cologne 0050hrs 4000M A.S.M Nr 1.
4./NJG 1 Lt 31.5.42 Halifax 30km WNW Cologne 0148hrs 4000M Nr 2.
9./NJG 2 Lt 22.10.43 Lancaster 50km NW Kassel 2105hrs 5200M Nr 3.
7./NJG 2 Lt 20.2.44 Lancaster E Bremen 0251hrs 6200M Nr 4.
7./NJG 2 Lt 20.2.44 Lancaster E Bremen 0301hrs 6400M Nr 5.
6./NJG 2 Lt 18.3.44 Lancaster 48km NW Limburg 2149hrs 6200M Nr 6.
6./NJG 2 Oblt 8.6.44 "Viermot" S Dieppe 0104hrs 2000M Nr 7.
6./NJG 2 Oblt 8.6.44 "Viermot" NW Paris 0119hrs 1800M Nr 8.
6./NJG 2 Oblt 8.6.44 "Viermot" W Beauvais 0125hrs 1500M Nr 9.
6./NJG 2 Oblt 8.6.44 "Viermot" NW Paris 0144hrs 2000M Nr 10.
6./NJG 2 Oblt 1.7.42 "Viermot" Chateaudun 0136hrs 2000M Nr 11.
6./NJG 2 Oblt 8.7.44 Lancaster 0054hrs 2700M Nr 12.
6./NJG 2 Oblt 4.3.45 Hudson NE Cambridge ____ _____ Nr 13.

I suspect that he was Staffelkapitan to 6./Njg2 in 1944. Sorry, but I don't know his date of birth/death, but he did survive the war ranked Hauptmann, and from 15th April 1945 last Kommandeur of II./NJG 2.

Thanks Johannes ,

Any idea of a picture of Brinkhaus ? Obviously he made his day on 7/8 June 1944 . One of his claims that night was a RCAF bomber which is still reported as missing ( viermot south Dieppe at 0104hrs ) , Lancaster LL643 and F/L Weis' crew.

Srry, no photo. Rather surprising he didn't get the DKiG, especially considering his leadership!

Johannes,

According to Gebhard Aders in History of the German Night Fighter Force Brinkhaus was awarded to DKiG. And sorry Zorglub, I've never seen a photo of him.

Regards,
Tom

Re: Oblt Franz Brinkhaus 6./NJG2 1944

Have just checked Veit Scherzer's book 'The Holders of the German Cross in Gold 1941-45' and there is no listing of Brinkhaus under any of the Nachtjagdgeschwadern.

Cheers,

David.

Hi David

Seems the recording of the DKiG awards ends in September 1944. Then we are given a speculative date of either 1st October 1944 or 1st January 1945. But book must also be incomplete as Hermann Graf's is not recorded, yet he is seen wearing one from mid 1942. Strange also that those late acquirers of the DKiG also cannot offer date's!!!

Regards

Johannes

Scherzer's list is incomplete and as far as I can tell does not include any awards from 1945.

Hi guys,

sounds like you're talking about my grandfather. I probably could provide you with a picture from that time (I'd have to ask my grandmother, he's dead by now) if you'd tell me what it's for.

Regards, Gerrit
