Heinkel He 111 losses on 7th June 1942

Good night for all,
I am trying to match the victim ( Heinkel He 111 and crew ) of P/O Harvey ( 600 Squadron ) on the evening of 7th June 1942. Maybe a reconaissance machine?
Thanks indeed for all information on that loss
Adriano

Hi Adriano,

The claim by P/O Havey and F/O Wicksteed in Beau. X7946 of 600 sqd. is linked to the loss of Ju88D5 4U+DL 1748 of 3(F)/123 at 2314hrs on the 7th. Ff Oblt Wolfgang Bauming missing to dead buried Cannock grave 6.350, B Oblt Camillo Kleemen missing, Bf Fw Friedrich Fug found dead off Lands End 15-6-42, Bm Fw Otto Mayer missing. The Beaufighter was hit by return fire the crew ditched, they took to their dinghy and came ashore safe.
The incident was the subject of a small book published in 1944 called ''Fathers Heinkel'' by Berhard Blake Wicksteed DFC the Beaus. Nav. The Biographical notes say he was born in London in 1904 done various jobs and became a journalist working on the Daily Express befor joining the RAF.
The book has 160 pages but the shooting down and ditching is covered by pages 24 to 46,

Regards

Brian Bines

Just saw Tony's reply and see there is a differnt serial no. for the Beau. I have not got my original source so cannot confirm - now corrected to X7946 as Tony's info.

Re: Heinkel He 111 losses on 7th June 1942

Thanks Brian for the additional information, was the Ju88 not from the 3rd staffel, Lannion?
AB serials list X7885 as ...Engine cut lost height on approach and cartwheeled Predannack 7-6-42.
X7946...shot down by Heinkel III (sic) 7-6-42

Kind regards

Tony you are right I have made the corrections, Thanks. I made a typo on the staffel, as regards the Beaus serial no. this was given to me by another researcher, so I did not have a supporting document I will change my notes to the correct no,

Tony and BRIAN,
Many many thanks for the information related to P/O Harvey´s claim...I thought it was a Heinkel, as they submitted on their original claim...and BRIAN, very useful linkt to that ( unknonw to me ) book written by Wicksteed, DFC. I will try to find it available on some specialized bookstore. Thanks indeed to both of you!
Yours
Adriano
