Claims by 94 Sqn in the Nile Delta 1942

Hi Friends,

I am looking for information about claims made by 94 Sqn in the Nile Delta area during 1942. I have checked with the book Fighters Over the Desert: Air Battles in the Western Desert June 1940 to December 1942 by Shores/Ring. but there is little about 94 Sqn after the withdrawal from the Western Desert to the Nile Delta area.

I´m especially interested in claims by Montague J. Rowland, RNZAF (NZ401781) and Richard Webb, RNZAF (NZ391853).

According to No.485 (RNZAF) Squadron 1941-1945 by Phil Listemann/Paul Sortehaug Rowland claimed ”at least two victories with No.94 Sqn in Nile Delta area, 1942”. According to Those Other Eagles by Christopher Shores Webb destroyed a Ju 88 together with another pilot on 20 December 1942 NW Port Said (Spitfire Vc BR487) but he may have made more claims.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Re: Claims by 94 Sqn in the Nile Delta 1942

The claims made by 94 squadron in the latter part of 1942 are as follows,

September 2, 1942 Ju88 destroyed - shared by P/O Walker (BP346) and Sgt Alderdice (BP339)

November 16, 1942 Ju88 destroyed – shared by Sgts Grove (BP392) and Imrie (BP387)

December 20, 1942 Ju88 destroyed – shared by F/Lt Webb (BR487) and F/O Rowland (BR586)

The December victories claimed by Spitfire Mk V attached to 94 squadron, while the other were by Hurricane Mk IIc of 94 squadron.

As far as I am aware there are no other claims for the latter part of 1942.

I am compiling a history of 94 squadron, which is intended to be published by Phil Listermann in his RAF squadron history series.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Ian Simpson

Thanks Ian,

Your help is much appreciated. I have also seen your post with my question on RAF Commands Forum.

Good luck with the history of 94 Sqn.
