Only listing for a P7?37 that matches and was a loss in Europe is

P7537 IIa CBAF MXII 38MU 21-10-40 74S 4-11-40
Shot down by Bf109 nr Gravelines on bomber escort mission 6-5-41 AST SOC 28-5-41 Sgt Arnett POW

But its a 65Sqn aircraft and not a 74Sqn loss. Also P7537 never listed with 65Sqn.

Any thoughts?

I think this photo has been on this forum before and is P7733 of 65 Sqn lost on 5/2/1941 with the loss of Sgt HC Orchard. I think another photo exists of this from the other side showing the body of the pilot before being removed? (I could be mistaking this for another incident)

Not convinced that is P7733 of Sgt Harold Charles Orchard #523288 as however I look at lit (and unless it has been mis-painted' the last figure has a straight line at the top so has to be a 5 or a 7 not a 3

I know which photos you are talking about. I remember the photos showing the pilot slumped outside of the port side of the cockpit. No idea if it was this aircraft or not.

If Arnott of 74Sqn was flying P7537 (P8199 in his log book filled out four years later!) he recorded it as a belly landing. This is not a survivable belly landing and not even sure he flew P7537 on his last mission either. Could have been Howard's.

I think the one with the body alongside the aircraft is 64 Sqn shot down by Fozo. I have photos of Arnott's crash-landed Spitfire if I remember correctly-victim of Joppien? Alistair Arnott was shot down in P7928/ZP-N on 5 May 41-definitely not this aircraft
