Re: Peter-Paul Steindl JG52 and JG26 informations
He actually flew in JG 54, not JG 52. There are several photos of his BJG 54 f 109E in Stab markings from the spring of 1941 that appear in several publications. (Name sometimes referred to as Heindl.)

Peter-Paul Steindl JG 54 and JG 26 information
Hi Lukas
This is what I have been able to find on this fellow so far. Some information that I have come across is contradictory so its somewhat difficult to distinguish which source is correct and which is not. Therefore, any comments or corrections will be greatly appreciated and I hope this helps. http://wikisend.com/download/176238/Steindl.zip Horrido! Leo |

Re: Peter-Paul Steindl JG52 and JG26 informations
Too numerous to name them all. Off the top of my head the Arco/Aircams on the Bf 109E, probably the Squadron in Action on the E as well for starters.

Re: Peter-Paul Steindl JG52 and JG26 informations
Hi Guys
Steindl was actually an Austrian pilot born on 12th May 1914. He was the Staffelkapitän of 5./JG 26 from 7th April 1943 until 1st May 1943. He was then the Staffelkapitän of 11./JG 26 from 20th June 1943 until 3rd November 1943 when he was shot doen in combat with U.S Thunderbolt's and injured, his Bf109 coming down east of Friesland. On 9th January 1945 he was killed when his Fw190 crashed southeast of Fürstenau. Claims listed all as a Hauptmann. 11th October 1942 1./JG 26 Spitfire 5km east of Dunkirk 1540 hrs W nr.1 4th December 1942 5./JG 54 LaGG-3 1015 hrs E Nr.2 30th December 1942 5./JG 54 Il-2 20km west of Demjansk 0820 hrs E Nr.3 30th December 1942 5./JG 54 Il-2 10km north of Demjansk 0824 hrs E Nr.4 23rd January 1943 5./JG 54 La-5 1330 hrs E Nr.5 27th January 1943 5./JG 543 LaGG-3 southeast of Schlüsselburg 1415 hrs E Nr.6 15th February 1943 5./JG 54 Il-2 Luban area 0810 hrs E Nr.7 11th April 1943 9./JG 26 Mosquito northwest of Gent 2036hrs W Nr.8 20th October 1943 11./JG 26 B-17 at Mons 1411hrs W Nr.9 Regards Johannes |

Re: Peter-Paul Steindl JG52 and JG26 informations
Hi Lukas
Sadly not, but sometime before his first claim. If you don't already have a copy Don Caldwell's JG 26 books are remarkably good and a mine of such information. Kind Regards Johannes |

Re: Peter-Paul Steindl JG52 and JG26 informations
Johannes
There is a problem with your published list and the photos. The Bf 109E said to be Steindls must have been taken during the Spring of 1941 and in Russia during that summer. One shot depicts this aircraft with an I-16, if I remember correctly. They all clearly show a JG 54 machine. They also show an aircraft in the markings of a Geschwader Adjutant. The digit 5 admittedly could indicate a 5 St machine, and is a bit odd. Now, if Steindl was transferred to 5./JG 54 in late 1942 surely 5./JG 54 must have been equipped with something better than clapped out 109Es? So either this is not Steindl's aircraft at all, or your time frame must be wrong. Any ideas? Cheers Stig |
