JG 77 loss on 3 January 1945

Hello,

I have a note saying the following:
"On 3 January 1945 Uffz. Gerhard LOEPPER of the JG77 was on a delivering flight of a brand new Bf109, when he was shoot down over Wetzlar by US fighters. Loepper bailed out, but was not high enough."

Who can confirm this and add some details (WNr, precise crashplace, Staffel, etc...) ?

Thanks in advance

Re: JG 77 loss on 3 January 1945

Hello Laurent,

this could be Uffz Gerhard Loeper, shot down by P-51s and killed on a ferry flight at Magdalenenenhausen near Wetzlar on 2nd Jan 1945.

He was a member of 1./JG 77 and flew a Bf 109 K-4, serial 332.361, no codes. The a/c was from a batch of Bf 109s built at Vilseck in late December 1944.

Thanks a lot to both of you

Charles, there is probably a typo in your crash location, that should be Magdalenenenhausen (scratch "en" in the center), as shown by the link below:

Best regards

Hello Laurent,

you're right. The tripple "en" is a typo. The original WASt-reports has Magdalenenhausen.

Best regards

Carl
