Re: panzer
Hello!
Two Panzer II, followed by two Panzer I, followed by 4+ Panzer III. The first Panzer III seems to be Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf. G. For the time and location I would guess May/June 1940 France. One of the soldiers is wearing a black Panzerbarett, which were replaced end of 1939/early 1940 but were still occasionally seen in Mid 1940. No idea concerning the unit, as no divisional insignia is discernable. |

Re: panzer
Serge, asking out of ignorance: the terrain looks close to the Ardennes, but even in 1940, were there not a lot more trees? Guess it depends on where the photo was....

A clean column of panzers
It's interesting that the column is driving in a non-tactical proper fashion down the right side of the road and the armor is in nearly pristine condition--the tracks and road wheels are new and clean.

Re: panzer
Could be pre-war somewhere in Germany.
All the best Andreas

Re: panzer
Look at the road surface. The right side of the road has been scuffed, probably from tracked vehicles travelling in a column in front of this one. The lane going the other way is not marred.
My guess: opening days of the war in France/Belgium somewhere. Bronc |

Re: panzer
Brock and NagaSadow might well be right. The first two Pz IIs are up-armoured, so definitely after the Poland Campaign. Due the scenery might well be somewhere in France in 1940.

Re: panzer
The tanks are stopped and there is a vehicle going the other way in the distance. Why block the roads with stopped vehicles?
The first tank in the photo might not be the first tank in the column. If this is May/June 1940, why is no one watching the sky? I would have thought if the tanks are in a 'war zone' there would be more space between the tanks. Last edited by Kutscha; 26th January 2014 at 08:31. Reason: added text |
