B-24 shot down by a life raft

On a mission dated May 31st 44 a B-24H's the LR hatch detached inflight
at about 20'000 ft hit the stabilizer along rest of the formation with or without
the life raft deployed causing the Lib to go inverted enter into spin which ended
up with structural failure of the aircraft and the loss of all airmen onboard .
Is anyone aware about similar events elsewhere and
the reason ?

Re: B-24 shot down by a life raft

There was a B-24 in a Ploesti raid who was downed by a parachuting crew member from another B-24. Can anyone supply some details? I have the information but have to look for it.

Alex-I have all the details should you need them. In both cases, I would not say shot down as no gun was involved rather brought down. Title is misleading!

Kaki

It was the 42-64499 hit by Sgt Garcia from 42-78235, both from 456th BG ,entire crew of the first acft perished
on that event , in addition the second strange event with the life raft was also above Ploesti from 465th BG. Both
events were rather peculiar and were just a small piece of a huge cake of mishaps , disasters and human
loss above one of the most dangerous targets in WWII .
