Re: E-bay founds - Hurricane, probably France 1940

I don't think that this one is a Hurricane. Although the prop/spinner looks to be DH (at least as opposed to Rotol), we have a very French-looking set of exhausts - certainly nothing like a Hurricane's Merlin - and a top cowling with gun blast tubes. Further, the frames of the windshield look too far spaced to be Hurricane, and the rudder lacks the horn balance at the top. The original poster suggests a Morane, but I'm pretty sure it isn't that, from the evidence of the cowling. Could it be a D520? I'm not convinced.

On the other hand, it does look rather a lot like a Yak 1. That the wings seem to have burnt to ash may be additional evidence. Note also the fitting for a Hucks starter in the tip of the spinner.

kaki3152 is an unknown quantity at this point

I also think this is a YAK-1. The construction details are not those of a Hurricane

You can see the gun-trough on the upper cowl, and make out the right gun blast tube in the exposed upper nose structure. So not a French Morane 406 or Dewoitine 520 - both of which has spinner cannon blast tube and wing mounted machine guns.
I haven't spend much time reading up on Yak-1's but a quick check on wiki and others show cannon-in-spinner and mg-on-top-of-nose-cowling arrangement. If others are in agreement then, seems a good choice.

This is certainly a Yak 1 - see Ebay Germany - 31239006184 - which includes wrecks of other Russian types I-153
