9th USAFF losses - 31 aug 1944 - friendly fire

Hi,

Following a german flak report about the 31 augustus 1944, a Thunderbolt was shot down at this date on 11.30 AM at 30 km west-southern of Brussels while straffing a station.

There's no loss for the 8th USAAF at this date. Following a witness, it was a "friendly fire" on a German plane. A Fw 190 made a belly landing at this date or on 01.09.1944 a few kilometers longer. Fw 190 and Thunderbolt are a little bit similar in the air.

Then, does somebody have the USAAF losses for the 31 augustus 1944, specially concerning the Thunderbolts, and the places/circumstance of the crash ? This could make me sure on a "friendly fire".

Thanks all.

There was a 366th FG/391st FS loss on 31-8-44: P-47D 42-76251 flown by Lt Thomas A. Hull Jr. (KIA). Got into problems while strafing. MACR 8491.

FG was based in Laon, France at that time.

Unfortunately I don't have details were loss occurred.

Regards,

Leendert

Thanks Leendert,
Following my info, HULL crashed after he touched trees while straffing. That isn't matching with the flak's german report : the plane crashed because shot down. If this is the only 9 USAAF's loss on 31.08.1944, your info is very interesting because that could confirm it was well a friendly fire like said by the witness ...
Sincerly yours.
