Peter Lacy and Francis Bacon
I have just seen a documentary on the painter Francis Bacon and found that he had a relationship with a fighter pilot, Peter Lacy. In most accounts Lacy had served in the Battle of Britain as a fighter pilot. My own sources are hidden among a load of boxes as I move houses and who knows when I will find them again? Can anyone tell me more of Peter Lacy?

Re: Peter Lacy and Francis Bacon
Many thanks chaps. It is indeed PJG Lacy. I think that makes unlikely he was a Battle of Britain Spitfire pilot, although possibly he served on the Channel Front post-1940.

Re: Peter Lacy and Francis Bacon
One source (Debretts) states he was a pilot in 1941. He was apparently shot down and badly injured. I wonder if this explains the missing period until 1943 when he is commissioned from Sgt pilot?

There is no Casualty Card for Lacy either commissioned on non-commissioned

Re: Peter Lacy and Francis Bacon
It is stated in many accounts that he suffered from nerves after being shot down. Maybe his wounds were more mental than physical. He does appear to be somewhat erratic in many accounts of his life.

Re: Peter Lacy and Francis Bacon
Dunno. He was commissioned and promoted later so it seems more likely he was suffering some form of combat shock that he recovered from.
