III/JG3 Bf109 August 1943 Question

Can anyone tell me if III/JG3's Bf109G-6s already had the under wing gondolas with the 20mm cannons before they transferred to the Western Front in August 1943? If not, when did they start using the gondolas?

Thank very much in advance for any answers!

Re: III/JG3 Bf109 August 1943 Question

Hi there SteveR,
I./JG 3 is photographically documented having its first delivered Bf 109 G-6 batch also fitted with Rüstsatz 6 underwing MG 151/20 gondolas, possibly in Mönchen-Gladbach, by May 1943. This color photo is published in Axel Urbanke's Luftwaffe im Focus Special 1, 2003, p. 10.

There is to my knowledge no such photographic evidence for III./JG 3, but i oc course stand corrected.

Cheers
Marc

Thank you Marc!

Perhaps a stupid question on my part, but do you know if it's possible by tracing the W.Nr. on a specific Bf109 to determine if/when the Rüstatz 6 was fitted?
