Lt. Friedrich Kerkhof , KIA 27/28 March 1944
Looking for info on the loss Lt. Friedrich Kerkhof and crew during the night of 27/28 March 1944. He was buried in Taunton and now in Cannock Chase. He could have been in pilot in KG 6 ???

Re: Lt. Friedrich Kerkhof , KIA 27/28 March 1944
Peter
Ron McKay and Simon Parry in "The Last Blitz - Operation Steinbock" have the following on page 282 Ju 88A-4 2./KG 54 B3+SK WNr 550401 Hester Combe, Ilminster, Somerset - 23.27 hrs Lt Friedrich Kerkhof EKI(F) - Killed CC 7/226 Uffz Gunther Pfauder EKI (B) - POW injured Uffz Rufolf Telsmann EKI (Bf) - POW injured Ogefr Werner Decho EKII (Bs) - POW. Shot down by Sqd Ldr H.V. Ellis in a 219 Sqdn Mosquito. Started from Juvincourt at about 21.45 hrs to attack warehouses in Bristol Docks area. While over Somerset at about 17,000 ft on its way to the target the gunner saw a night fighter below and behind. The night fighter opened fire and the gunner gave a short burst in return, but the port engine of this aircraft caught fire and the pilot gave the order to bail out. The aircraft broke up on impact with the ground and wreckage was scatteredover a wide area. Lt Kerkhof had the cruel misfortunre to have his parachute canopy snag upon the cockpit frame and was killed. Markings - B3+SK, S outlined in red, K outlined in grey. The camouflage on the top surfaces was very dark green with wavy light grey lines superimposed, whilst the undersurfaces were black. Page 278 of the same publication has the Combat report submitted by Ellis. Page 273 of the same publication has a map showing the routes used to target and the relative location of the bombers (including B3+SK) that fell on British soil. Hope that the above is of some help.
