Re: Claims 11/05/42(III/JG.77):Kharkov
Hallo Michel,
I am very interested on identifying the claims of Obfw. Wilhelm BAUMGARTNER, since he seems to be a distant relative from Switzerland. If you eventually do manage to match his claims (at least for that particular day), could you share your information with me, please? baumgartner_asv@yahoo.com.br I have not though managed to find from which town (guess it may have been Glarus) he came or he was born. Re: Claims 11/05/42(III/JG.77):Kharkov
Super Leo as usual!
Surprising the underestimation of the claims compared to the Soviet losses!! this changes us from usual overclaiming... as 15/05/42 (III/JG52 for ex.) Thanks Leo Michel |

Re: Claims 11/05/42(III/JG.77):Kharkov
Hi Adriano
I encountered a problem with your email address The claim of Baumgartner in the morning:I-61 (Mig-3) It could be the Yak-1 (Sta.Lt. Birulchik) of 6°IAP Or the Yak-1 (Lt.Solyanov) of 273°IAP his claim in the evening:6°IAP Yak-1 (Mayor Moiseev) Yak-1(Lt.Kapustin) Yak-1(Lt.Biryukov) Yak-1(Lt.Kryukov) Yak-1(Sta.Lt.Romanov) Other possibility, one of the two LLag-3 of the 23°IAP lost in the area of Pavlograd(Sta.Lt.Andreev and Zolotarev ) Michel |

Re: Claims 11/05/42(III/JG.77):Kharkov
On the 11 May 1942 the 23 IAP was escorting 6 Su-2 and met in a dogfight with Bf 109. The LaGG-3 flown by St. Lt. Viktor Andreev and the LaGG-3 flown by Lt. Zolotarev were both listed as missing. The Soviet Operational Report of the Staff of the VVS SWF (TsAMO f. 229, o. 161, d. 918, l. 36 for the 11 May 1942) listed the time as 18:36, which was probably the ending time of the mission. So the German claims were probably before 17:36 Berlin time.

Re: Claims 11/05/42(III/JG.77):Kharkov
The above report also listed 3 LaGG-3 under the command of the commander of 164 IAP (2 AE) Kapitan Nikitchenko over the airfield of Kharkov at an altitude of 1700 m, met in an air battle with two Bf 109, the battle lasted 20 minutes. Lt. Ryabov in the battle shot down a Me-109, which burning went to the ground in the area east of the village pf Anilovka. The aircraft of Kapitan Nikitchenko in the battle was damaged and made an emergency landing in the area of Hill #219, 5 km west of Nepokrytaya. Crews observed, that Kapitan Nikitchenk escaped from the aircraft and hid in the ravine. The time was listed at 05:00 (04:00 Berlin).

Re: Claims 11/05/42(III/JG.77):Kharkov
Raid on the airfield at Kharkov at an altitude of 2000 m by 11 Yak-1 and 2 MiG-3 (from these 5 Yak-1 and 2 MiG-4 from the 4 RAG) covering 7 Pe-2, met in an air battle with 15 Bf 109. Kapitan Guzarov shot down 1 Me-109, which burning went to the ground at 2 km to the east of the airfield of Kharkov. The Yak-1 from the 186 IAP flown by Mo. Lt. Dmitriy Kol’tsov was listed as missing. The report listed the time as 07:30.
This information on my earlier post for this pilot was on a Russian book of the air battle that is out of date on release of new material from TsAMO. |
