J.B. Coward shot down 31/8/40
Hi guys
James Coward of 19 Squadron was shot down during the Battle of Britain, on 31 August 1940. He was badly injured and had a leg amputated. I have seen mention that he was shot down by Do17 return fire, a Bf109, or own AA fire - or perhaps all three! Is there any connection between Coward's misfortune and the account of a 19 Squadron pilot being shot down and losing a leg (as recorded in Dizzy Allen's FIGHTER SQUADRON, page 60 of paperback version)? Has anyone details please? Cheers Brian |
