Uffz Walter Stohl

Researching for a friend who's relative was on Whitley BD564 of 502 Sqn, shot down by Uffz Walter Stohl and Dieter Meister 12.10.42

Any info on Uffz Walter Stohl, picture.

Also can anyone help with this map reference given for the location, 24W/ 1647

Regards Paul

Re: Uffz Walter Stohl

Stohl was killed in action 1 Dec 43 whilst shadowing American bombers and crashed at Pesch. If there were any photos, they would be in my book 'Bloody Biscay' but I don't believe so. Meister is another matter. I can give you an approximate location for PlQ 24W/1647 if you would like to PM me

Re: Uffz Walter Stohl

Hi Paul

Stohl had four confirmed claims with 2./ZG1:-

12th October 1942 Whitley 1555 hrs 600 metres Nr.1
8th August 1943 B-24 1235 hrs 3500 metres Nr.2
18th August 1943 Sunderland 2000 hrs 2000 metres Nr.3
21st September 1943 Sunderland 1718 hrs 2000-700 metres Nr.4

He was a Feldwebel at death.

It would appear that Stohl was given the claim over Meister.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Uffz Walter Stohl

All of these kills pre-date the formation of 2./ZG 1 with Ju 88s and I would say that these kills tended to be shared due to the numbers of attacks by up to 8 Ju 88s
