Books about jg54
Hello forum members.I was hoping for some help in narrowing my search for a book about JG 54 probably written early mid 90s. My father Hans Reinhardt was corresponding with the author in 1987-9 with some pictures, information, but I never heard a title or author and my father died unexpectedly. The author had written other historical airforce books ,one about the 8th airforce and was nth American if I remember correctly. Not much to go on I know, but any suggestions are helpful. It would be nice to have a read as he was in Jg54 for most of the war.He had trained for the German aircraft carrier and had extended training in kriegsmarine requirement as well, before being enlisted as wingman for Philipp. He was lucky to survive the war having a severe crash in oct 43 when Hans Philipp was killed. He did a number of hours in Me 262 before wars end but no operationally, flew most aircraft including flying boats, and even a meteor after the war, being employed by the British as a translator.Thank you for any help I look forward to suggestions.

Re: Books about jg54
I cannot comment on who was writing the JG 54 book but your father gets a mention in my new book on Ritterkreuz winners of 1940. He was the last person to see Philipp alive on 8 Oct 43 by which time they were both with JG 1. Your father then collided with a B-17 and force-landed near Dielingen

Re: Books about jg54
Thank you all for these suggestions,I’ll hunt them down.Dad gave all his medals away when it all ended and he had never received the paperwork for the ritterkreuz, but he had a nice newspaper clipping from a trip to Germany in 1972,shaking hands with Trautloft, who referred to him as a Ritterkreuz trager, he having approved it. As regards ramming the bomber, he was avoiding a thunderbolt and bit the tail gunners position,he always said he see the look on that mans face.you forget these were all young men Phipps was an old boy but died at 26 ,thanks again

Re: Books about jg54
Might check with Eric Mombeek’s book on JG 1. Also have you checked a search of his name on this website.
