Sous-Lieutenant Marcel Merle ECN1/13
Can anyone give me details of his two victories with ECN/13, or indeed any victories by this squadron? I assumed the night campaign was so brief in 1940 that combat was rare. I believe that Andre Boursain claimed a victory, date u/k but did it claim more?
Merle made a probable claim over a Blenheim in November in 1940 while with GCII/7 but I am not aware of others. regards Keith |

Hi Keith,
Ltt André MERLE still posted to "ECN" 1/13 on 30 november 1942 when the Escadrille de Chasse Lourde 1/13 disbanded ; he was not with GC II/7. Bertrand |

Superbe! Merci copains.
I confess my information about Lt Merle is from cieldegloire which has him leading the 6eme escadrille from 1941-3, and credits him with a shared probable victory (with Sgt Hagi and Sgt Carrere) on 28 November 1940 at Bizerte. regards Keith |

The Blenheim apparently regained Malta safely (see "L'Aviation de Vichy au combat" p100).

Thanks Michel, yes, caution is required. I have had instances of my virus-checker showing problems with this site. So far it's been able to counter them.

Re: Sous-Lieutenant Marcel Merle ECN1/13
AFAIK there was no night air fight over France in May-June 1940. The Potez of ECN were engaged in day patrols when they met German bombers and claimed victories.
