Re: Two FAA losses
Robert,
From website naval-history.net: A Roc fighter of 803 Squadron from aircraft carrier Furious, but based ashore and flying from Hatston, failed to return from patrol off Wick. Petty Officer L R Tregillis and Naval Airman R E Eason were lost. Heavy cruiser Sussex on patrol in the South Atlantic lost her Walrus reconnaissance aircraft when it failed to return from patrol. A three and a half day search for the aircraft was set in motion, but the aircraft was never found. The crew of three, pilot Lt (A) S M Bird, observer Lt C H E Osmaston and the telegraphist air gunner, Airman W H Brown, were lost. This Walrus apparently was L2261. Regards, Leendert |

Re: Two FAA losses
Robert,
Some other sources say that the Walrus was shot down by (German) Bf-109s, but I really can't figure out where these would have come from in the South Atlantic region... Regards, Leendert |

Re: Two FAA losses
The ships log for HMS Sussex makes no mention of the cause for the downing of Walrus L2261.
