Lt Peter Lauffs, 1/NJG 2
Peter Lauffs died 27 Jan 42 in the Med but I can find no corresponding crash, unless he was mortally injured in his crash in Dec 41. Can anyone throw any light on this?

Crew:
Lt. Laufs, Uffz. Gleißner, Fw.Rinklake A/C: Ju88C-2 (R4 + LH) 0779 The whole crew was killed in a crash after a sortie against Malta. Crash site: Mount Etna 8(km south west of Adrano / Santuzza. The crew is buried on the military cemetery Motta-St.-Antasia burial vault 4. from the book: Heinz Rökker Chronik I.Gruppe Nachtjagdgeschwader 2 I/NJG 2 Juli 1940 bis Kriegsende 1945 Fernnachtjagd 1940 - 1942 Rökker mentions the loss on the 26th, but I think the mission started in the night 26th/27th so the crash happened on the 27th hope this helps Werner |

crash in Dec 41 ??
I have only a lost A/C with 50% battle damage after meddling around with a Hurricane above Malta on the 19th Dec. Laufs was also credited with a Hurricane on this date ( time 10:45 near Malta)(it was his 12th and last kill AFAIK ] the A/C was Ju88C-2 (R4 + BH) 0824 I have only one additional crew member: Uffz Gleißner |
