Uffz. Karl Bauer, mystery case...

Gentlemen,

Who can shed some light on the following mystery case: July 27, 1942 Uffz. Karl Bauer, 22 years old, pilot of presumably JG3 was captured in Kalach area after having lost orientation and crashed his Bf-109F-4 with burning engine. No trace of him can be found for this period in any of three JG3 group, judging by JVF vol 9/II. Interrogation protocole is poor with exact info of him being born in Auerbach, graduated from flying school in Werneuchen under Gen-Maj. Schlegel in June 15, 1942. Being sent to the Eastern front and this was his first combat mission. Take off at 14.00 from Tazinskaja for patrol mission.
Could it be an unrecorded loss for JG3 or Uffz. Karl Bauer is a creature of Uffz. Karl Hauer of 7/KG4, who went missing in w.n. 7496 on the same date in PQ 3914?

TIA.

Re: Uffz. Karl Bauer, mystery case...

Checking the GQMs returns dated 1-8-42 showing the loss of a He111 of 7/KG4 on 27-7-1942 the missing Bf of this crew is definitely Uffz. Karl Bauer. This is also the name given in the KG4 history by Karl Gundelach,

Hello Brian,

This is definitely what I am talking about. In a mess of retreat Bauer was likely to be shot and no further investigation was made. However, there is a slight chance that Bauer told the truth as regards to being a fighter pilot...
