109G10 black 12 WNr 770269, Fürth May 1945
Hello all
While searching the web for some FW190 pictures I came across the web page of someone in the US who had posted pictures from a family member who served in WWII as a pilot...a lot of them taken in Duxford at war's end and marked with this location. Unfortunately I do not have the link any more... When looking through the pictures, two stuck out since they looked different from the rest, surely not taken at Duxford. The FW190 red 5 I had seen before in a much smaller picture but what clarifies the location 100% (apart from the hangar) is that the well known and photographed G10 black 12 sits right behind it. Also on the field was a Storch, pressed into US servive. Not sure if the pics are known already...here they are anyway. thanks Uwe PS: Any more pictures of that FW190 known? ;-) |

Re: 109G10 black 12 WNr 770269, Fürth May 1945
Uwe: Besides the well known Messerschmitt, the Fw 190 A-8, W.Nr. 961,118, red 5, of 2./JG 6 was photographed soon after both aircraft landed at Furth to surrender. Another color photo of red 5 may be seen on page 93 of The Focke-Wulf Ta 152 published in 2010, by Eagle Editions Ltd. The Fieseler Storch photo should be flipped as the photo was printed backwards (note the location of the pitot tube). It's not possible to read the aircraft's werk nummer, but we can make out the code letters GB+YW. Again, it was at Furth.

Uwe: that 'someone in the US' is clearly identified on their website as Dan and Jeff Manthos, sons of Lt. Col. Atlee G. Manthos.
