Re: 370th Fighter Group, 402nd Fighter Squadron Question

402 Squadron codes "E6" aircraft letter "E".
Squadron tail marking was a Circle, coloured Black. Coloured White on camouflaged aircraft.
So, Black Circle on outer sides of tail fin/ rudder while the aircraft letter "E" would be on the inboard sides of the fin/rudder.
The Squadron code "E6" and "E" would be on the outer sides of the aft fuselage units.
There would also be faded invasion markings.

Pilots Finding of death date was 18th December 1945.
