Question Oblt. Max Graf Hoyos, SpanienKreuz iGmBr recepient question

Hallo gentlmen!

I have a question: for what success Oblt. Hoyos was awarded such a high award?

Quote:
Gold with Diamonds
It was awarded to those who showed great leadership skills in battle or great merits.
Very feiw pilots got such a high decoration - only 13 fighter pilots and 3 bomber pilots.

Oblt Max Graf Hoyos served with Kampf Gruppe (K/88) of Legion Condor. The only known other pilot, who flew as bomber pilot in SCW and went on Bf110 during WWII was Lt. (later Hauptmann with I./ZG26) Wilhelm Spies, who go Spinienkreuz in Bronze mit Schwerten.

I got it.

Lt. Max Graf Hoyos was one of 10 very first Ju52 pilots, sent to Spain in summer 1936.
On 13 aug 1936 Lt. Hoyos together with Hptm. von Moreau, flew a first combat mission of Ju52's, during wich they could attack republican Jaime I , Espana-class dreadnought battleship, and put is out of action.

Also, Hoyos flew many transport mission at early stages of conflict. But I failed to find him in list of pilots of K/88, when it was equipped with He111's.

Any further info?

Evgeny,

do you know his book (Pedros y Pablos) about his time in Spain?
I have it and can check some details, if you need.

Yes, it was written by him (Pedros y Pablos - Fliegen - Erleben - Kämpfen in Spanien). There are several editions of it.

A Hungarian one I'm not sure, that it has any English editions at all. And I did not met with a German edition in the Hungarian second hand book market, yet (I bought a number of original German editions from WW2 books, but missed this one, yet)
But I can translate back.

Evgeny,

The original German language edition was published by F. Bruckmann KG of Munich in 1939. It is not that rare to find these days. I am not aware of any English language editions.
