Ltn Wilhelm Brauns I./NJG2

Hi guys

Following his shoot down over Malta, and capture in December 1941, Ltn Brauns of 1./Staffel was interrogated on recovery and he claimed that both his father and brother were pilots with I./NJG2 at Catania, although with a different Staffel.

Any substance?

Cheers
Brian

Re: Ltn Wilhelm Brauns I./NJG2

Hi Brian

This would be with Heinz Rokker's Gruppe. He published a book on the gruppe, in it he seems to list ALL the personnel, but no body else by that name mentioned. Rokker gives Brauns's lose as:-

19th December 1941 flying a Ju88 C-4 Brauns and Uffz Erwin Heese P.O.W's bordfunker Gefreiter Johannes Mattuschka killed. Shot down in the region of Malta by a British Hurricane.

Kind Regards

Johannes

"19.12. 1./NJG 2 Feindflug (bei Venedig über See) vermutlich Jägerbeschus"

that's correctly "Ta Venezia" at Malta.
