help with Bf109G II./KG(J)55 markings
Would the markings have been bomber style or fighter style?
My guess for staffel for the a/c I am interested in would be 6. Any advice on what they would have been? Thanks Peter |

Re: help with Bf109G II./KG(J)55 markings
Thanks Don. A most useful link.
Laurent Rizotti previously posted loss information for KG(J)55 aircraft for Dec44-Feb45. Extracts from his post - 12 December 1944 Bf109 6./KG(J)55 BT+KB (P) Fw. Heinrich Schiffgen (67185/452) killed. Crashed during a training flight Nr. Plattling, Niederbayern, SE of Regensburg. Germany. and 4 January 1945 Bf109 5./KG(J)55 BT+EZ (P) Oblt. Alfred Veith, seriously injured. Collided with PZ+TX during a training flight Nr Plattling, SE of Regensburg, Germany. Would I be right in assuming then that the BT+KB is the factory number, not the unit marking? I couldn't make sense of the BT otherwise ....... Thanks Peter |

Re: help with Bf109G II./KG(J)55 markings
Hi Peter,
You are correct: "BT+KB" is the STKZ of this Bf 109 G-6. Unfortunately, no W.Nr. is given for this particular machine. For the 4 January 1945 crash: "BT+EZ" is a Mtt built Bf 109 G-14, W.Nr. 785195. This machine also still sported its STKZ on the fuselage. "PZ+TX" was piloted by Uffz Erich Barein, no other details known for this machine. Cheers Marc |

Re: help with Bf109G II./KG(J)55 markings
Thanks Marc.
So the STKZ were left in the a/c, at least in some cases. The link Don came up with shows examples at the end of the war with traditional fighter markings applied. Are your records such that you can check if there are any known markings for any of the Bf109G flown by Wilhelm Brennecke from 12/44 onwards? Thanks Peter |
