9th Air Force ground claim , 18 August 1944 , Normandy

Hello ,

That day a Sq 83 Lancaster bellied in south Dieppe after a daylight bombing . An hour later the crashed bomber was strafed by allied fighters , there 's a footage here at 31.12 :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iKRQiznEZQ

I would like to know which 9th AF unit claimed ground victories in that area , especially aircraft destroyed ( no 8th AF such claim that day ) .

Thank you ,

Zorglub

Can't help with the Lancaster but that looks like a Mossie at 27:40, and possibly a B-24 at 28:39.

The only 9th Air Force ground strafing claim against aircraft (by a fighter unit, no idea on Tac Recon groups) was an unidentified aircraft claimed destroyed near Tille by Lt. W.C. Stephens, 402nd Ftr Sqn, 370th Ftr Grp

Thanks Kent . As it was a USAAF film I guess there were only US fighters footage so I blanked out possible RAF claims .

It may be quite possible that this straffed aircraft was not recorded as a claim, as it's more a necessary job than an action against the ennemy.
