Air Crew Metal Badges

Was it normal for air crews to wear more than one metal badge , ie a Observers badge and a Radio operators badge worn on the same Flieger Blouse ?

Re: Air Crew Metal Badges

Peter

Aircrew badges were specific to the occupation they had within the crew i.e. pilot (FF), Observer (BO), Air gunner (BS) etc.. If a pilot was also a qualified observer there was a combined pilot/observer badge which was awarded.

It should be noted that depending on the type of activity the unit was involved in it was not uncommon for badges from other branches of service to be awarded. For example Minensuchgruppe crewmen could be awarded the Kriegsmarine minesweep badge and Bordflieger personnel could be awarded the KM High Seas Fleet badge for service aboard capital ships.

All of the other badges, decoration etc. you listed could be worn concurrent in a myriad of combinations.

Regards

Jeremy

Re: Air Crew Metal Badges

Many thanks for the replies Gentlemen . The reason why I asked this is I recently got a photo of a NCO and in the photo it appears that he is wearing both a Observers and Radio operators badge on his four pocket tunic. This is the first time I have seen this in photos .
