I have a hypothesis about these late war wing racks. The racks shown in the original manual look nothing at all like Fw190 racks. (There is a reproduction of this page in Medcalf v.2.) Perhaps, when there was a perceived need for outer wing tanks in 1945, none of the original, rarely used tank racks were available, so some enterprising maintenance weenie adapted something that was widely available to the existing hard points in the structure. That seems reasonable and would explain a fair bit.

Period of Luftwaffe hypothesis is over. It died with Medcalfs books, in my opinion.

Suggestion is outright outrageous, in light of that it has already has been stated (in this thread, if you have not noticed) these were different capacity, 250 kg and 500 kg ... But maybe you do not know what a kg is - its similar to lbs...
