Lilya Litvyak - Did The Germans Know Of Her

Hello All
I have done a small bit of reading of the Russian femail pilot Lilya Litvyak. From what I have read the Germans appear to of known of her and may even of "ganged up on her" to shoot her down.

My Question is, did the Germans really know of her and is there any German documents that mention her name?

If I remember one source even went as far to say that she took down a highly decorated German ace. Is there any evidance to confirm this ?

Also, which German fighter squadrons would she of been up against.

Regards
David

Re: Lilya Litvyak - Did The Germans Know Of Her

Hello
I cannot say for sure but I see no reason the Germans would not know about Litvak. They had quite an effective intelligence and some accounts from the western front are really shocking.
Any stories of special German units to down Soviet aces or screams in kind of 'Achtung, Pokryschkin' are to be put among other Soviet propaganda. I am afraid, you have to wait a little bit before reading anything good on the subject, bulk of the writings available being commie crap.

Hello
I have had a read of the last discusion, looks like you need to be up on Russian to get full value from it.

However, there does not seem to be any information on the German reports on her.

Did any axis pilot claim to down her ?

Regards
David

Guys,

Litviak name was Lidiya Vladimirovna, not "Lilya"/ That was only her nickname ...
