Julius Meimberg's claim, 5 September 1942

Hi,

Some secondary sources list a claim by Oblt. Julius Meimberg (supposedly his 23rd), Staka of 11.(Höhe)/JG 2, against a Spitfire participating in Circus 214 on 5 September 1942, but without giving time, place and altitude. Up to now, I have been unable to find any reference to this claim in the primary documents available on-line (Invenio). Does someone have more information about it, in particular is there any mention in Meimberg's memories (Feindberührung - Erinnerungen 1939-1945)?

TIA

Jérémie

Re: Julius Meimberg's claim, 5 September 1942

Hi Jeremie

Daily mikrofilm entries total fifteen:-

2 x NJG 1
7 x NJG 2
3 x JG 26
3 x JG 2 (1135-1145 hrs)

But none for Meimberg, moreover his abschüßelist omits this, posibly unconfirmed, but more likely spurious.

Kind Regards

Johannes

No entries in his Biography "Feindberührung".
According the claims list in this book no.23 was the last one at the Channel front in France, a Spitfire near Dieppe on 20 Aug 42.
Next one, no.24, was in Tunisia on 25 Nov 42.

I have from Meimberg copies of the signals confirming his victories and can confirm 20 Aug 42 was his 23rd
