Crete campaign 1941

I'm after any recommendations for books covering this campaign. Of course, I'd prefer if you have actually read the book that you may recommend.

I recently read the chapters covering this campaign in Gavin Long's excellent 'Greece, Crete and Syria', a volume in the Australian Official History of WW2, and would now like to read a book from another perspective.

Cheers,

Bruce

Re: Crete campaign 1941

Shores et al Air War For Yugoslavia, Greece and Crete. That's about as definitive as you are likely to find, from the air fighting perspective. I can't advise on the best choice for the ground campaign, but the naval side is covered in a number of books, I don't know of a one dedicated to this and I'd rather not choose from the more general. For a more personal account try Moreau's Operation Mercury, the author being RAF ground crew.

Re: Crete campaign 1941

Hi Graham,

Thanks for your response. At the moment I'm really looking for another book that focuses on the ground campaign, although I hope to lay my hands on 'Yugoslavia, Greece and Crete' eventually.

Cheers,

Bruce

Re: Crete campaign 1941

Hello,

Anthony Beevor's "Crete: The Battle and Resistance" gives a good overview while "Operation Mercury" by Marcel G. Comeau gives a British airman's first-hand account of the Campaign.

Best wishes/Håkan
