junkers-88 wreck
Hi all, this my first time in your blob, and I'm here because I need your help. I'm an Italian diver and I visit the JU-88 wreck in front of Santa Caterina di Nardo' - (or near Gallipoli) Lecce, in Puglia; south of Italy, 2miles from the cost.
On the botton there is a JU-88a-4 (I think) but nobody have more info about it.
When (day-month-year) the JU-88 fly over the surface for sink into the sea? And the pilots did save? There is not information about the pilots. From which airport did it come? Which mission does it have to do? Apparently this JU-88 was a training aircraft because there is not the machine gun in the cockpit. I know that a squadron was equipped with JU-88 and was based in Grottaglie: it was the IV/ KG 54, fourth group of bombardment.
During the training of pilots assigned to the squadron, between March 1st 42 and May 18, they lost many aircraft in incidents.
Please can you help me to identify this aircraft? There are anybody with info about a plane lose in Gallipoli?
Thank you to all can help me.
Claudio
