Currently on delcampe is a photo of Nieuport 21 N.9370 at:

An unusual serial for a Nieuport 21?

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Nieuport

Clint

I suspect this is a Type 81 (and not 21)
Don't think I have seen any other type in the 9000 range

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photo Nieuport

Hello Stig,

Thanks for the reply. The aircraft in the photo has only one cockpit and the rear cabane struts slope inwardly, whereas on a Nieuport 81 they are straight. Also the machine has the built up area behind the cockpit whereas the Nieuport 81 doesn't have this decking. I'd like to keep an open mind, but I still see a Nieuport 21 with an unusual serial - which is why I posted. Have you tried blowing up the image? while due to me eyesight, I can't be certain I still think I see 21 on the tail.

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Nieuport

You're right

It says 21 on the fin.
So it goes when you only look at the serial number.

No idea why a Type 21 would use such a high number.

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photo Nieuport

Hi Stig,

You don't have to tall me about the perils of identifying an aircraft by looking at the serial numbers, there are one or two examples, at least in this thread alone where I've done precisely that

Clint

Re: Photo Nieuport

Hello,

Currently on delcampe is a photo of a Nieuport 14 at:

The serial is hard to read, but based on the stars on the wheel covers and the roman numeral X on the fuselage VB 102 may possibly be the unit of the aircraft shown.

Clint

Re: Photo Nieuport

Hello,

Currently on ebay is a photo album largely featuring land war based photos. However, there is a rather nice photo of a shot up Nieuport 23 B1651 of 29 Squadron RFC at:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/124397-Fotoa...sAAOSw3Vpf05Ib

Edit

Also available this evening on ebay is a photo of Nieuport 16 A125 of 60 Squadron RFC at:

Regards,

Clint

Currently on ebay is a photo of a Nieuport 11 in German hands possibly N.1386 (if i read the serial correctly) at:

I feel like I've seen this photo somewhere before (?) Does anyone know the unit operating the Nieuport?

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Nieuport

N1386 was a Nie.16 flown by S/Lt Bucquet N.3 in 1916; the fuselage and wheel covers were reportedly red, no.5 on fuselage and top wing.
